A short history
In Spanish times the town was itself called Dumaran. It was renamed Araceli on 15 June 1954, and in 1961 five of its barrios were separated to form the present municipality of Dumaran.
Japanese forces landed in October 1944, and local guerrillas held out in fortified positions in the hills until the Japanese withdrew to the mainland in February 1945.
