Island
Linapacan Island
Main island of the municipality and site of its main settlement. The municipality lies between Coron and El Nido.
A short history
Under Spain the islands were the barrio of San Miguel, part of Coron, and forts were raised at Caseledan and Ili against raiders. Ten islands were separated from Coron in 1954 to form the town.
A 1988 law renamed the municipality after Gaudencio E. Abordo, a former governor and representative of Palawan, but voters rejected the change in a plebiscite in May 1994, and the name Linapacan stayed.
